The Role
This position directs all phases of the COLUMBIA construction, test, certification and delivery of modules to Electric Boat Corporation. For the COLUMBIA Class, NNS is a subcontractor to the Prime Contractor, Electric Boat Corporation. Further, this position is responsible for all aspects of Fixture Based Manufacturing of submarine pressure hull assemblies in NNS’ Segmented Assembly Machines and associated tools / facilities. This position will provide solid leadership in a changing culture and fast paced environment.
Main responsibilities include:
- Cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs.
- Participating in the negotiation of contracts and contract changes.
- Coordinating the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract.
- Acting as the primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer(s) to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
- Establishing design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test while expanding the product line.
- Establishing milestones and monitoring adherence to master plans and schedules, identifying program problems and obtaining solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications.
- Directing the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas.
- Total program value of $2.75B for current Build I contract covering design services and construction of modules for both SSBN826 and SSBN827.
- Developing, sustaining and maintaining executive-level business relationships with Electric Boat Corporation, the Naval Sea Systems Command and Naval Reactors leading to continuous production of COLUMBIA Class Ships that will follow the first two ships through completion of the class. These relationships will necessarily support successful preparation for; and, negotiation of, the Build II contract.
- Sustaining and maintaining continuous production of both VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA modules in-fixture, including the resolution of production conflicts to best effect for both programs.
- Sustaining and maintaining an Executive presence with local, state and congressional officials positively representing NNS and its consequence to the National Defense Infrastructure including workforce and workforce development matters.
- Supporting NNS objectives in preparing for and successfully prosecuting a major role in the design, construction, testing, certification and delivery of “SSN(X)”.
Must Have
Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience OR a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 8 years of relevant work experience.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience at the Engineering Director level, preferably in waterfront engineering operations.
- Program Management experience at the major program level, preferably in (or with) a submarine or submarine-related program.
- Ability to regularly travel, with flexibility to do so on short notice; and,
- Experience leading difficult, controversial and/or sensitive Company-level matters to successful conclusion thus demonstrating Director-level competencies.
