Job Description

This position is for the Manager 1 of a​ new third design section being formed within the A1B Propulsion Plant Planning Yard's Structure, Shielding, and Hull Outfitting Group (Department E70).  This section is being formed to reduce manning workload on the two existing E70 design sections. The new section will have responsibilities for material coatings, insulation, deck coverings, cathodic protection, jigs and fixtures, and other Propulsion Plant Structural and Hull Outfitting work responsibilities transferred to the new section from the two existing E70 design sections. This section will also be responsible for the development of ShipAlt design products produced within the Structure, Shielding, and Hull Outfitting Group.  

This position will require the successful candidate to manage the development and delivery of the commodities listed earlier in support of CVN 78 Class new ship construction as well as Class wide maintenance and modernization efforts. Significant experience with traditional shipbuilding design and drawing development processes is required, but a strong background in the areas of Integrated Digital Shipbuilding (iDS) and the CVN 78 Product Model is also required. A high level of engagement is required to assure all deliverables are technically accurate, of the highest quality, meet all specification requirements and are completed in time to meet established schedules.

Must be able to manage multiple tasks utilizing the resources available to them and be able to react to changing priorities and schedules. Be able to identify and remove risks and obstacles to completing assigned tasking. Should have strong leadership skills and ability to guide a team so as to assure all work is performed to achieve established safety, security, first time quality and business outcome expectations.  Have the ability to work independently with little oversight from higher levels of management. Basic Qualifications

Design Apprentice certification or Associates degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.
