The Role

HII - America’s largest shipbuilder and a global, all-domain defense provider- has an exciting opportunity for a 2025 summer intern at our office in Fairfax, Virginia!  With a more than 135-year history of advancing U.S. national defense, this minimum 10 week Corporate summer internship opportunity will allow students to gain experience in areas such as business, finance, information technology, and legal and government affairs, as well as being able to support the leaders who are driving the future of HII!

As a Legal summer intern you will:

  • Attend Law Department staff meetings
  • Review Teaming Agreements and Nondisclosure Agreements
  • Legal research and preparation of memoranda and other documents, as necessary, on a wide range of topics related to Government contracting, compliance, the Civil False Claims Act, and Government Ethics issues
  • Attend meetings with the business units and outside counsel
  • Support internal investigations and employment and other litigation
  • Perform additional assignments as requested

 Upon conclusion of the internship, the Summer Intern should have a general understanding of the duties of an in-house counsel at a publicly traded company

Must Have

1. Be enrolled in a Juris Doctorate program at an accredited law school

2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Official transcripts will be required) 

3. Be continuing in a Juris Doctorate program in the fall following the internship

4. Work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer
