Job Description

The Computer System Security Analyst is responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, and support of the Cybersecurity Security Operations Center infrastructure and applications at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Secure Mail Gateways
  • Identification and resolution of incidents impacting email
  • Maintaining ACLs, configurations, and policies
  • Support and assist the SOC and the CIRT with security incidents and to design new policies to identify and mitigate risk
  • Participate in providing documentation to ensure a well-managed and mature email security infrastructure
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


Designs, tests, and implements state-of-the-art secure operating systems, networks, and database products. Conducts risk assessment and provides recommendations for application design. Involved in a wide range of security issues including architectures, firewalls, electronic data traffic, and network access. Uses encryption technology, penetration and vulnerability analysis of various security technologies, and information technology security research. May prepare security reports to regulatory agencies.


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience. Master's Degree and 0 years of experience. A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of network, protocols
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge and experience with other cyber infrastructure (i.e. appliances, servers, etc.) helpful.
  • O365 migration experience
  • Understanding of security landscape as a whole
  • Creativity and individual thinking, and the ability to work both with a team and unsupervised
  • Strong and efficient problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and sustain productivity with multiple simultaneous projects
  • Familiarity with problem and incident management, change management, notifications, and basic operational understanding of running and maintaining production infrastructure
  • Strong customer service skills, teamwork, oral and written communication
