The Role
HII- America’s largest shipbuilder and a global, all-domain defense provider- has an exciting opening for a Corporate Director of Compensation. This position has the option to operate out of either our Newport News or Arlington, Virginia office. The Corporate Director of Compensation is responsible for managing enterprise-wide compensation programs and the compensation function for the HII corporate office, ensuring that the company’s compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations. The selected candidate will be responsible for executive compensation, cash incentive plan and equity plan design and administration. Conducts surveys and studies labor markets to determine compensation trends. Ensures compliances with local, state, and federal laws regulating compensation practices.
Duties include:
Managing the administration of direct compensation programs, short and long term incentive and reward programs, program design, budgeting, communications, and annual grant process, as well as ensuring compliance across all.
Preparation of Board Compensation Committee materials, as well as annual proxy materials relating to the company’s executive compensation programs.
Monitoring the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures, and developing and recommending plan revisions as well as new plans that are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives; coordinating implementation and providing guidance to divisional compensation staff.
Performing ongoing benchmarking of all executive compensation and rewards program vs. the competitive landscape, to include individual executive compensation elements/total direct compensation against relevant benchmarks to assess competitiveness.
Providing advice on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretations and job evaluation, including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation related programs.
Staying apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.
Other duties as required of the position.
Must Have
Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline, plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience in executive compensation and salary administration;
OR
Master's degree and 8 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience.
Nice to Have
- Masters in Business Administration or Human Resources
- Certified Compensation Professional/Certified Executive Compensation Professional
- Understanding of the Financial and Accounting impacts of executive rewards programs, as well as a thorough understanding of related legislative and regulatorty issues impacting executive rewards programs.
- In-depth knowledge of global/international compensation
