The Role

HII (Huntington Ingalls Industries) seeks an experienced Senior Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit Analyst 3 to join our team.

Responsibilities include

  • Support annual preparation and filing of the U.S. Federal R&D Tax Credit (Form 6765).
  • Collaborate with business segments, technology teams, and other subject matter experts to identify qualified research activities and related expenditures.
  • Assist in application of the IRS four-part test to assess eligibility of projects and activities. 
  • Analyze financial data, project records, and technical documents to substantiate claims.
  • Prepare and / or review externally prepared R&D tax credit reports and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with governing IRS regulations and applicable court cases.
  • Work closely with internal subject matter experts to optimize tax positions.
  • Assist in responding to R&D tax credit audits or inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Assist in developing processes for identifying and capturing qualifying research activities and related expenses.
  • Work with large, complex data sets to build models and leverage data visualization tools.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to R&D incentives.

 

**REMOTE CONSIDERED FOR IDEAL CANDIDATE**

Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics, plus at least 6 years of relevant experience, preferably with federal R&D tax credit.  Master's degree and 4 years relevant experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in R&D tax credit analysis, including identification of qualifying research activities and calculation of qualifying research expenses.
  • Experience with technical tax research (e.g., CCH, RIA, BNA portfolios, etc.)
  • Experience with the shipbuilding industry
  • Experience with data analysis, including Power BI and Alteryx
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong technology, organizational, and project management skills with ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • CPA designation
