The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

 

This position is for an Electrical Designer 3 role for the Submarine Engineering – Advanced Capabilities team in Department E35, specifically for the Whole Ship, excluding the Propulsion Plant (PP), design of  our nations next Nuclear Powered Fast Attack Submarine, SSN(X).  Candidates should be prepared to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment closely with E35 Engineering and Design personnel throughout the SSN(X) conceptual and design phases of the program.  The selected candidate will support Whole Ship Electrical Design studies for future US Navy Attack Submarines.  The candidate will also be responsible for supporting technology research and development studies to influence enhanced capabilities of future US Navy Submarines including support of Undersea Warfare (USW) design concepts.  

 

This position will also be responsible for supporting other Electrical Designers and Engineers in various studies.  The applicant must have the ability to support these teams through design development and evaluations.

 

Secret clearance is required.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience

 

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

  • Extensive knowledge of US Navy Submarine Electrical systems, requirements, system integration, arrangement best practices, and Submarine unique considerations is preferred.  
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple Submarine platforms and other Navy platforms for contrast as well as experience in reading production drawings and interpreting technical manuals and documents is preferred.  
  • Extensive knowledge and experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter is preferred.
  • Candidate should be able to develop and effectively communicate design packages to both internal and external customer(s).
  • Solve complex spatial integration issues while meeting system and overall ship requirements.
  • Translate operational capabilities and technology selections into workable 3D product model arrangements.
