Specific Job Description:

The successful candidate will perform Supplier Quality oversight of suppliers.  This oversight will include interfacing with suppliers in order to: audit/assess the supplier's quality management system and their capabilities for performing critical manufacturing processes; perform related studies to help insure that engineering and procurement specifications are met; initiate/validate supplier corrective/preventive actions to drive resolution of problems discovered during supplier assessments; and help train/develop suppliers.  Candidate may also investigate or coordinate the investigation and resolution of material-related non-conformances, and interface with internal Procurement and Engineering functions to facilitate the development and communication of part ordering requirements.  Technical writing and customer relations skills are essential.  Must be able to obtain DoD security clearance.  In addition, working experience in a manufacturing environment is desired, preferably including quality engineering, such as inspection, auditing, statistical analysis, quality assurance and quality control.  Prior experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role is a plus.  Project management/leadership experience is desired.  Lean and Six Sigma training/certification is desired.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience:

   -- Engineering design environment

   -- Supplier Quality role/environment

   -- Shipyard waterfront operations

   -- Manufacturing/process engineering environment

   -- Auditing

* Data analysis experience using MS-Excel

* Technical writing and customer relations skills

* Six Sigma and/or Lean training/certification
