Job Description

Candidate will support the design and assessment of both marine components and ship structure for vibration and coupled acoustic response for both existing Navy ships and new Navy designs. Responsibilities include: construction and assessment of finite element analysis (FEA) and statistical energy analysis (SEA) models, processing of computational results and testing data via tools such as Matlab, generation of reports detailing findings, and briefing of results to peers and the technical lead. Strong analytical and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently are required. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD SECRET level clearance is also required.


This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong background in computational structural acoustics covering direct solutions, modal, boundary element method, or statistical energy analysis techniques
• Experience / coursework in acoustics, vibrations, finite element method, or statistical energy analysis method
• Experience with commercial finite element pre-processor tools such as HyperWorks, FeMAP, or Abaqus CAE
• Experience with commercial finite element codes (Abaqus, Nastran) or statistical energy analysis codes (Altair SEAM)
• Experience using high performance computing systems
• Experience processing vibration and signal data via Matlab
