Specific Job Description

Performs a variety of duties necessary for the successful ramp-up of a new supplier surveillance process.  Will require collaboration and coordination with customers and other internal functions, including engineering, supply chain procurement, quality assurance, and manufacturing trades.  This oversight will include interfacing with suppliers in order to: audit the supplier's quality management system and technical capabilities; perform related studies to help insure that engineering and procurement specifications are met; initiate/validate supplier corrective/preventive actions to drive resolution of problems discovered during supplier assessments; and help train/develop suppliers.  Candidate may also investigate or coordinate the investigation and resolution of material-related non-conformances, and interface with internal Procurement and Engineering functions to facilitate the development and communication of part ordering requirements.

Specific duties may include:

* Manage outsourcing suppliers’ performance

* Follow up on plans, actions, etc., addressing deficiencies

* Program manager; POC for following up with suppliers

* Develop plans to improve, lessons learned, etc.

* Review Purchase Order data for quality requirements.

Basic Qualifications

9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor�s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

* Technical, Tech Pub welding, NDT, etc. 

* Familiarity with ship structure

* Understand spec violation vs workmanship.

* Structural/Mechanical or Industrial Engineer

* Preferred Value Stream/Yard knowledge

* Project Management Skills is a Plus

* Strong written and oral skills

* Capable of running meetings with internal and external customers

* Capable of working independently without a play book

* Up to 30% of work time involves travel. 

* Proficient with JT2Go & VWI
