Job Description

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.


Electrical Engineer will be required to develop an effective teaming relationship with the System Operator to perform the following:
• Troubleshoot system problems,
• Provide engineering resolutions for system problems/configuration changes,
• Produce or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation,
• Develop a long range strategic plan for the system,
• Participate in the development of planned maintenance requirements,
• Support resolution of unplanned events,
• Participate in project implementation process for system related projects,
• Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance
• Work independently and lead cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks


Basic Qualifications

2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree with a Professional Engineering (PE) license
• Knowledge of electrical power distribution
• Experience in PLC based control systems and strategies
• Experience with Square D Power Logic, EDSA, and Wonderware software
• Experience in coordination of circuit breaker settings
• Heavy industrial facilities experience is preferred
