Job Description

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

E86 CVN Nuclear Propulsion - Construction and Process Engineering is in need of an Engineer Electrical 2 to provide technical oversight of material/component procurement for the Ford Class Propulsion Plant. Specific Areas of Responsibility and necessary skills include:

- Provide resolution of issues associated with material/component procurement and vendor complicance/issues associated with meeting the purchase order requirements with respect to the manufacturing and delivery of the materials/components to build the Ford Class Propulsion Plant.
- Serve as a procurement engineer within department E86.
- Serve as an SME on electrical specifications, processes, and controls (such as CVN78 Class Diagrams, Ship Specs, and other CVN78 Class specific requirement documents) used in the manufacturing of the material/components used to manufacture the CVN78 Class Propulsion Plant.
- Occasionally provide engineering support to resolve deckplate issues pertaining to the construction of Ford Class Propulsion Plants.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience OR Master’s degree and 0 years’ experience OR PDP apprentice certificate and  1 year of engineering experience.  Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

- Experience and working knowledge of the NNS Parts Catalog and the Parts Master Office (PMO) processes and procedures.
- Experience with developing/working with problem paper (VIRs, eIRs, IRARs, LARs) and understanding the entire value stream for each type of problem paper.
- Team player and has the ability to discuss issues with all levels of management. 

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge and ability to interpret specifications and coded notes associated with CVN78 Class NNPNs specific to electrical components.
- Experience and familiarity with Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence and their application to reviewing NNPNs and coded note application to NNPNs.
