The Role
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
This position supports the Nuclear Engineering department E86 for the material engineering group. Specifically, this position is for the electrical engineering support, oversight and ajudication of vendor/quality issues for electrical components.
A successful candidate will possess analytical/problem solving skills to resolve technical issues which arise during manufacturing. The individual shall have the communication/relational skills to interface and discuss technical issues with technical and non-technical personnel. In addition, the individual will be willing to provide hands-on support in warehouses and vendor facilities.
Typical duties in this role include assisting senior engineers with the following:
1. Provides on-site support for material issues that arise during new construction.
2. Ability to read and understand military specifications.
3. Develop instructions and resolutions for Quality Notifications, Vendor Qoutes and Vendor Information Requests.
4. Review, interpret and maintain vendor drawings for electrical components (fabrication, assembly, and installation).
5. Collaborating with peer engineers,vendors and craftsmen on a daily basis.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Effective written and verbal communication skills; Problem Solving; Critical Thinking; Technical Writing.
Nice to Have
Experience with Microsoft Office Programs.
