Job Description

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have experience in electrical machines and electrical distribution systems for shipboard power. Experience in networks, and IC systems is a plus. Experience developing new designs, and testing/qualifying new components is also highly desirable. Requires working with vendors, ship's force, NAVSEA, and shipyards to solve problems. Some travel and shipboard work is required. Requires a BSEE, or equivalent. MSEE in Shipboard Power or currently enrolled in masters program is highly desirable. Experience with modeling and simulation software such as MATLAB Simulink, PSPICE, or SABER preferred. Able to be able to lead a team to complete complicated tasks. Able and willing to train/mentor junior engineers. Able to obtain a RADCON qualification and requires a Confidential-Restricted Data Security Clearance
