The Role

This position is intended for the Engineered Components Turbine Generator group in Department E70.  The candidate will be take over the lead electrical engineer responsible for leading projects individually and assisting junior engineers in their projects.  This position regularly communicates with Navy, NNL, and various other personnel across multiple NNS engineering and supply chain management departments. The equipment under the team’s area of responsibility include several mechanical and electrical components.  The electrical components involve a generator and the control system to control both real and reactive power associated generated by the equipment.

 

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

 

 

 

 

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience or
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience or
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

 

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Communicate with junior engineers for the purposes of knowledge sharing and project assistance.  Good communication skills. Both verbally and written.

Good problem solving skills and be able to quickly draw solutions to difficult shipboard and supplier production issues that are technically correct, cost effective, and complete.  

Knowledge concerning electrical system integration and electrical component design.  Knowledge of ship system integration and turbine generators is desirable.
