Job Description

Candidate should have significant electrical engineering experience with electrical infrastructure in the following or related areas: power distribution in large industrial facility, backup power, emergency generator power, UPS, fiber optic cabling, security, fire alarm and communications systems. Experience required in: development of one line diagrams; transformer sizing; MCC layout; conduit and cable sizing; and knowledge of NEC, arc flash analysis, coordination studies, and energy analysis. Strong leadership, communication and computer skills (example: MS Office) are essential. Strong project management and organizational skills are required. Ability to address technical, quality and business aspects of a project is essential. Ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks is required.

Specific to this position:
This position requires specialized skills and experience with low and high voltage electrical systems, associated with Manufacturing and Shops Projects. Position provides high level feasibility estimates, planning, design oversight, and field engineering support for design and construction of production equipment for manufacturing, electrical distribution, capacity analysis, lighting systems, and communication systems. Position is responsible for preparation, review and audit checks of engineering calculations associated utilizing electrical engineering principles. Position also performs project management including review of engineering drawings and specifications, review of vendor engineering calculations, technical submittal review, approval of design criteria, and start up and commissioning criteria/documentation. Position is highly engaged with quality control, quality inspections, start up, commissioning and turnover of contracted work with customers, stakeholders and operators. Position requires coordination and management of multiple contracted design and construction activities.

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Basic Qualifications

9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred
• A professional engineer's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred
• Familiarity with International Building Codes (IBC), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, IEEE, NEMA, IES, and OSHA regulations preferred
