The Role

This is a senior level engineer position to support the SSN(x) Power Distribution System. A successful applicant should have extensive experience in Electrical Engineering Simulation Tools, Research & Development, Project Management, Technical Rigor, with the ability to analyze and troubleshoot electrical systems. The applicant should have the ability to communicate well with all levels of management including external customers and NAVSEA. The ability to mentor and instruct others within the SSN(x) program is a must.

 

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

 

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; 
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; 
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Experience electrical engineer is preferred in order to analyze electrical engineering issues in ship designs with knowledge or experience in US Navy ship electrical systems is highly desired.
The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, and able to work in a team environment in order to achieve goals and meet timelines.
The candidate should be a quick learner and able to apply new skills to perform new ship design innovations and/or concepts.
Good communication and writing skills will be required in order to present work to peers and customers.
Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and troubleshoot electrical systems with documented rigor with MATLAB experience is a plus, although not required.
Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in groups with minimal oversight from management.
