The Role

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

Exciting Opportunity: Carrier Propulsion Plant Obsolescence Management Program
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as part of the PREPY Obsolescence Management Program. This role presents a unique opportunity to work alongside our PREPY engineering teams as well as with NAVSEA and Naval Nuclear Laboratories (NNL) customers, gaining exposure to the broad portfolio of carrier (A4W and A1B) fleet support and new construction systems. By leveraging obsolescence management as a critical and strategic aspect of lifecycle and system project management, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our propulsion plant systems.


As a member of our team, you will have the chance to:
•    Support improvements to processes for determining and tracking obsolete material, driving efficiency and effectiveness in our operations
•    Determine prioritization of replacement efforts, ensuring that our systems remain up-to-date and functional
•    Research information needed to support engineering material reviews, staying at the forefront of industry developments and best practices
•    Provide technical review of resolutions for obsolete material, applying your expertise to drive informed data driven decision-making
•    Support development of technical documents for ordering requirements, ensuring seamless communication with stakeholders
•    Review technical responses to Navy supply system Liaison Action Requests (LARs) concerning material obsolescence, providing expert guidance and oversight
•    Provide guidance to engineers, designers, and logistics support personnel, helping to shape the next generation of propulsion plant systems

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; 
Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Ideal Candidate
To succeed in this role, you should have:
•    Experience with NIMITZ (A4W) and/or FORD (A1B) Class propulsion and reactor plant components, or a strong willingness to learn and adapt
•    Familiarity with the Navy supply system (NSNs, APLs), including ordering requirements, material specifications, and qualification requirements
•    Excellent communication skills, with the ability to discuss technical issues with both technical and non-technical department personnel and suppliers
•    An understanding of obsolescence management principles and practices, with the ability to apply these to real-world problems
