Job Description

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

Basic Qualifications

2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and/or course work in acoustics or vibrations is preferred in order to perform acoustic engineering in support of ship design.  The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, and able to work in a team environment in order to achieve goals and meet timelines.  The candidate should be a quick learner who is able to effectively apply newly acquired knowledge. Good communication and writing skills will be required in order to present work to peers and customers. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and perform engineering acoustic analyses with documented rigor.  Experience with acoustic transfer functions, acoustic level predictions, acoustic or vibration testing, ship or systems engineering, or acoustic modeling using MATLAB, AERO-S, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH, EFEA or SEAM is a plus, although not required.

Requires the ability to acquire and maintain a DOD-SECRET level clearance.
