Job Description

Newport News Shipbuilding is currently seeking Lead Test Engineers to join their team!  This requisition is to fill Lead Test Supervisor (LTS) roles on the Ford Class Platform.  The primary roles of the LTS are listed below.  

  • In charge of all testing on their assigned shift to include providing oversight and direction to the Lead Test Engineers on that shift.
  • The direct deck plate representative for the Propulsion Chief Test Engineer. 
  • Responsible for ensuring tests are conducted in accordance with approved test procedures as authorized by the Test Plan of the Day.
  • Responsible to ensure operations and testing are conducted in a safe manner.


Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.

Basic Qualifications

Lead Test Engineer (LTE) or Ship Safety Officer (SSO) or Watch Supervisor or Watch Officer Certification or Trade REC Coordinator (TRC) and Trade REC Oversight Agent (TROA) Certification and 4 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.


Preferred Qualifications

Lead Test Engineer qualification on the A1B Platform

Must have an LTE or STE qualification or equivalent Naval Experience
