The Role
Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.
This position is an assignment in Barrow-in-Furness, UK. Beginning in February 2027, the initial contract period is two years, with the possibility of annual renewals thereafter up to 5 years. The position will require travel and take residence in the United Kingdom. The chosen candidate will work collaboratively with BAE Systems supporting the UK’s SSN-AUKUS (SSNA) submarine program within the secondary build and test. The selected candidate will be embedded in the SSN-AUKUS Secondary Systems Commissioning at BAE Systems (BAES), they will support the assimilation of US Steam and Electric Plant (S&EP) related commissioning (testing) methodologies, to provide US Shipbuilding best practices and to ensure the compatibility of US supplied components for the UK’s SSNA program.
Must Have
Lead Test Engineer (LTE) or Ship Safety Officer (SSO) or Watch Supervisor or Watch Officer Certification or Trade REC Coordinator (TRC) and Trade REC Oversight Agent (TROA) Certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.
Nice to Have
Specific tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reviewing and inputting to S&EP Test Procedures and providing input regarding incorporation of US S&EP methodologies and components.
- Support detail development of test sequences, Build to Test activities, Construction Support Diagrams (CSDs) development, and various process and procedures.
- Periodic review of UK readiness for various Test activities.
- Participate in a knowledge capture exercise for the key UK commissioning work streams prior to completion of assignment (knowledge mapping).
- Assist in the development of a training program for UK commissioning team members.
- Specific duties will vary throughout the assigned embedment period as the development and execution of the SSN-AUKUS commissioning (Test) program progresses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiar with VCS Program Build and Test
- 10 years + of applicable experience
- Steam and electric plant design or operations experience
- ACTE experience or above
- Experience with the development, execution, or assessment of a new construction steam and electric plant acceptance test program for the US
- Familiarity with the roles and responsibilities of the Joint Test Group or Joint Propulsion Test Group for a US new construction/overhaul submarine or Aircraft Carrier
- Steam and electric plant design or operations experience
Ability to coach and mentor engineering peers
