Job Description

This senior engineer position is for the Ford Class Carrier Programs group in Department E33. The engineer will be responsible for leading CVN 80 waterfront support efforts and working closely with Trades, Construction, Engineering, and Planning teams to ensure CVN 80 surface prep and coatings work is successfully planned and executed. This position also regularly communicates vendors/subcontractors and SUPSHIPNN. The position utilizes SAP, Teamcenter, and TruQC.

 

Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.

 

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelors Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

- Waterfront experience with basic understanding of carrier new construction build processes
- Technical proficiency with associated surface prep and coatings procedures, processes, and specifications
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with Trades, Construction, and Planning organizations
- SSPC/NACE/AMPP training or certifications
