Specific to this position:
Will need a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with Mechanical Piping Systems. Mechanical Piping System Engineer will be required to develop an effective teaming relationship with the System Operator, troubleshoot system problems, provide engineering resolutions for system problems/configuration changes, produce or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation, develop a long range strategic plan for the system, participate in the development of planned maintenance requirements, support resolution of unplanned events, participate in project implementation process for system related projects, and oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance. Position requires specialized skill and experience with sewer and storm drain piping systems. Additional expertise required in Plant Operating Systems related to City Water Booster Pump Stations, Sewer Pumping Stations, Sprinkler Pumps, and piping distribution systems.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering degree with Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred.
• A professional engineer's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.
• Knowledge of Plumbing Codes, Virginia SCAT, DEQ Waste Water Regulations, and NFPA is preferred.
• Heavy industrial facilities experience is preferred.
• Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience is desirable
