We are seeking an Engineering Project Planner to coordinate and control engineering schedules and deliverables for submarine programs. This role focuses exclusively on the engineering portion of the project lifecycle—from initial technical planning through design, integration, testing, and delivery of engineering outputs to manufacturing.

You will serve as the primary interface between engineering leads, program management, and technical disciplines, ensuring all engineering activities are sequenced, resourced, and completed in alignment with program objectives.

Key Responsibilities
    • Develop, maintain, and control engineering-specific project schedules for submarine development, modernization, and lifecycle support.
    • Work with engineering leads to define work packages, task dependencies, and durations.
    • Ensure engineering milestones, design reviews, and technical deliverables are planned and tracked to closure.
    • Identify schedule risks, bottlenecks, and resource constraints within engineering activities; propose mitigation strategies.
    • Coordinate inputs from multiple engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, combat systems, etc.) into an integrated engineering plan.
    • Support Earned Value Management (EVM) for engineering tasks, including schedule variance analysis.
    • Monitor change requests and integrate approved changes into engineering schedules while maintaining baseline integrity.
    • Provide clear, data-driven schedule reporting to engineering leadership and program managers.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

• Experience supporting NAVSEA submarine design, integration, or modernization programs.
    • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and design review requirements (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
    • Background in coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams on large defense projects.
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Project or Primavera for engineering schedules.
    • Understanding of engineering design processes, configuration management, and technical data flows.

Why This Role Matters
The Engineering Project Planner ensures that submarine engineering efforts remain synchronized, resourced, and on track—directly impacting the quality, cost, and timeliness of undersea capability delivery.
