The Role

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior engineer to provide subject matter expertise to drive innovation, excellence, efficiency, and continuous improvement into the development and lifecycle management of select A4W & A1B electrical control systems and Generic Instrumentation and Control (I&C) (GIC) systems, including associated hardware and software efforts. The ideal candidate will have proven technical and technical leadership abilities, and a track record of successfully executing complex projects. This position will play a key technical role in supporting the organization's and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program’s (NNPP) strategic objectives to drive operational excellence for the NNPP.
The successful candidate must have a strong technical background in Generic I&C system development, software development. The successful candidate must be able to develop coherent reports, letters, and other written documents that are logical, self-explanatory, and accurate. The successful candidate will apply technical principles, theories, and concepts in the development, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management of systems and products that support A4W and A1B electric plant control systems. In addition to performing engineering work directly, the successful candidate also will provide technical oversight, guidance, training, and facilitation of personnel development to ensure growth of the technical staff and successful completion of projects. Additional key responsibilities include:
• Provide technical expertise to the organization and the other NNPP organizations related to development and lifecycle processes, including, but not limited to Software Qualification by Criticality Level (SQCL) principles, practices, and implementation.
• Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture, promoting operational efficiency and effectiveness while growing and developing the team members.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to control system design, implementation and lifecycle support, software application development, incorporating best practices into project development activities and NNPP processes.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams & groups within the planning yard, EB, NNL, & Bechtel Propulsion Machinery Incorporated (BPMI), and installing activities to ensure project success.
• Implement and maintain best practices in software development methodologies including agile, waterfall, DevOps principles.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners. External stakeholders and partners include, but are not limited to, NAVSEA 08, NNL, BPMI, Electric Boat, Ship’s Force, NNS, Naval Shipyards, and suppliers.
• Be the organization’s GIC Design Team (GDT) Member and Lead Project Representative to be the POC between the GDT and the organization’s GIC-based system teams.
• Participate in or lead the development or update of associated organization and NNPP principles and process documents.
• Participate in Program-level meetings and on teams addressing Program strategic initiatives, such as the Strategic Planning efforts, Program Reviews, and various collaboration efforts.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.

Nice to Have

• MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
• Professional Engineering License
• Experience developing, testing, and verifying software and requirements for Generic I&C NNPP systems
• Control and Information System (CIS) design experience
• Knowledge of Cybersecurity and Control System Security (CSS) requirements
• Ability to organize and manage large projects
• Business process and functional knowledge
• Understanding of multi-system interfaces
