The Role

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Join the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard (PREPY) as a key member of our newly established Lifecycle Management (LCM) team. This is a high-impact opportunity to serve as the "tip of the spear" in driving proactive, data-driven logistical solutions for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP). 
As an LCM Engineer, you will bridge the critical gap between complex engineering and logistics services. You will not only manage the "what" and "how much" of system lifecycles but will be the primary voice explaining the "why" and "how" of our strategic initiatives. You will work across a broad portfolio of carrier (A4W and A1B) fleet support and new construction systems to ensure the long-term sustainability and operational readiness of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities
•    Technical Subject Matter Expertise: Provide deep technical guidance for A4W and A1B engineering systems and processes to inform lifecycle decisions.
•    Strategic Roadmap Integration: Engage and integrate cognizant engineering teams along technology roadmaps, ensuring that technical milestones align with procurement and logistics realities.
•    Strategic vs. Tactical Execution: Utilize data and advanced tooling (such as COOPIR/IMR) to delineate and execute immediate tactical needs versus long-term strategic goals.
•    Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a technical liaison between the LCM group, the OM group, Navy Procurements, and external stakeholders including NAVSEA, NNL, BPMI, and NAVSUP.
•    Drive Accountability: Ensure the efficient execution of LCM initiatives and foster a culture of ownership and accountability to improve PREPY’s cradle-to-grave LCM quality info for the.
•    Risk Mitigation: Identify high-risk systems and develop technical solutions to address obsolescence and spare parts availability.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; 
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; 
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
