Job Description

The E92 Model Based Engineering (MBE) team is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position as an Engineer 5 position as the new program Digital Engineering Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and support our efforts to revolutionize how we evaluate, develop, and implement digital technology for our Shipyard and focused on Navy customer interaction.
This position will serve as a technical lead for complex system implementation projects of various sizes and lead in:
• Setting the vision for Digital Engineering products at NNS to align with Navy strategy
• Setting the strategic direction of Digital Engineering efforts to enable the wider Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing and In service support. 
• Developing strategic technical work plans for multiple funding streams.
• Being the technical leader for digital engineering with internal leadership and external leadership
• Managing the customer relationships with both internal and external leadership and peers.
• Investigating, testing, and developing new capabilities to enable increased throughput
• Work to integrate and standardize data, processes and tools across programs and systems to ensure data integrity, data reuse, and data access/dissemination to maximize efficiency and effectiveness into the company’s core business processes.

The position will support multiple strategic enterprise initiatives that will include defining digital architecture environments and process.  This position will also require a working knowledge and ability to leverage system engineering thought process and techniques to analyze and improve processes across programs. This position requires a person that is comfortable developing a clear vision from an ambiguous constantly changing set of requirements. 
Additional roles.
• Partner with IT Architectures to ensure architecture solutions developed across programs are aligned to enterprise architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet financial targets (cost and benefits).
• Ensure system integration and tracking is accomplished across numerous programs, and projects, during all stages of development to ensure successful implementation.
• Customer & industry technical collaboration, vendor data exchange, process & procedure documentation, modeling standards development, and the development of Model Based Engineering educational material.
• Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
• Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
• Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 14 years of relevant exempt experience; Master's Degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
