The Role
About the Role
The Engineer Systems test will serve as a key team member supporting the testing of submarine or carrier mechanical and electrical systems and components, ensuring that all systems meet U.S. Navy, SUBSAFE, and shipyard standards. The position involves both engineering design and hands-on field support in a fast-paced shipyard environment, working closely with waterfront construction management, design engineering, test engineering, SUPSHIP, NAVSEA, NAVAL REACTORS, various ISEAs and Ship's Force.
Key Responsibilities
• Candidate will work on shipboard systems aboard Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carriers or Submarines while undergoing construction/repair
• Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems.
• Interface with NAVSEA, Electric Boat, and internal departments to coordinate design and testing activities and resolve technical issues.
• Prepare and present technical reports, analyses, and recommendations to management and external customers.
• Track overall test progress, troubleshoot and resolve major shipboard technical issues and make recommendations as required
• Support Sea Trials, testing the ship’s mechanical, electrical, and combat systems at sea
• Ability to climb on and around ships including stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding.
• Willingness to work around moving machinery at heights and in confined or restricted spaced on vessels undergoing construction/repair
Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.
Must Have
An ABET Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience;
OR Professional Development Program (PDP) NNS Apprentice Certificate

• Strong understanding of submarine or ship structures, including pressure hulls, framing, bulkheads, supports, and foundation systems.
•Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
• Ability to assist in engineering evaluations and troubleshoot a variety of mechanical and electrical components
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with trades, management, and government customers.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling tools (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks) and analysis software (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus).
• Strong problem-solving, leadership, and mentoring skills with the ability to manage small project teams.
• DOD Security Clearance is preferred, but not required to start.
