The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

 

The VCS Interior Communications System Technician 3 is a demanding position requiring in-depth technical knowledge, a solid grasp of the requirements for Commercial-Off-The-Shelf electronics equipment. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers including SUPSHIP, SPAWARS Atlantic, CWITT & PMS450E, and coordinate with many different organizations to safely and successfully accomplish testing on Virginia Class submarines and CVN platforms. The candidate will be primarily responsible  for the testing, maintenance and operation of the Announcing Systems to include all support  equipment console Key-switch Integrated Terminal Equipment (KITE), Dial Telephones, Secure Telephone Equipment (STE), Portable Ships Control Station (PSCS) equipment, Tactical Communications and Audio Subsystem (TCAS), Loudspeakers, Microphone Stations, handsets, headsets Wire free Communications (WIFCOM) radios, WIFCOM base stations, Man on the Move Communications (MOMCOM) handset, base Stations and Ship’s alarms. Additional responsibilities will include other large scale distributive systems like SSN Circuit D, TSMS Total Ships Monitoring System or CVN ADS, Advance Degaussing System. The candidate will, groom, troubleshoot, and maintain test equipment, in accordance with the required test procedures in support of the successful completion of the ICS System testing and C5I system (96 Hour) Operability testing. 

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Nice to Have

-    Good leadership skills 
-    Expertise in extensive COTS electronics
-    Related Test or construction experience
-    Good communication skills and proven capacity to effectively interface with internal and external stakeholders
-    Capacity to evaluate problems relative to the impact on the overall plan/schedule and formulate recommended mitigating action plans
