Job Description
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
This position is intended for the Submarine Ship Safety group in Department E25 Test Engineering. Once qualified as Ship Safety Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible for Ship Safety on his or her designated submarine.
Basic Qualifications
Associate's Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Ship Safety Preferred Qualifications
1. A minimum of six months experience as a Construction/Operations Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Test Engineer/Technician, Work Control Representative, Ship Safety Watch, US Navy submarine qualified individual, or their equivalents in this or another shipyard while assigned to shipboard work or testing.
2. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of Submarine 6010 Ship Safety and Submarine Watertight Integrity requirements.
3. Must have a strong submarine ship system knowledge and ship system interrelationship understanding to be able to decipher work descriptions, tagouts and testing on work control documents in relation to making determinations as to their effect upon Ship Safety.
4. Must be able to direct, manage and safely conduct all required Ship Safety evolutions in support of: maintaining ship conditions, high risk evolutions and the prevention and control of fire and flooding casualties while the submarine is waterborne or in dry dock.
5. Must be able to effectively communicate orally with both internal and external customers to include: Commanding Officer, Ship Duty Officer, Project Construction Management, Trades, Test Engineering, Engineering, SUPSHIPNN, and Ship’s Force.
6. Must have above average writing skills in support of preparation of the Ship Plan of the Day, Ship Safety procedures, and both internal and external audit finding responses.
7. RADCON TLD and SECRET Clearance required.
