Job Description
The specific assignment is for a pipefitter to work on the shipyard’s utility infrastructure piping systems that may include steam, compressed air, city water, gases, sewer, etc. Piping may be located on or in piers, docks, shops, plants, buildings, trenches, tunnels, etc. The job may involve exposure to extreme weather and other environmental conditions encountered in shipbuilding and manufacturing including noise, fumes, chemicals, moving and energized machines, cranes, and systems. The work includes layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and the maintenance of piping and piping systems, appurtenances, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems, on the basis of knowledge or system operation and study of building plans or working drawings. Candidate will be expected to place high priorities on safety and quality-workmanship.
Basic Qualifications

Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs. 

Preferred Qualifications
Trades school training, familiarity with plumbing and mechanical and gasfitter codes, and Journeyman’s plumbing and gasfitter license is highly desirable.

• Experience in the installation and repair of live mechanical piping systems
• Must be physically fit and able to bend, stoop, kneel, lift and capable of climbing vertical ladders and working at moderate heights
• Depending on area, specific technical, medical and physical requirements may apply, such as radiation worker; grade A cleanliness or asbestos worker qualifications
• Ability to read and accurately follow written, oral and graphic instructions
• Solid skills in power and hand tools
