Job Description
Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus to Foreman new hires. Job seekers who apply after November 10, 2021 on qualifying requisitions are eligible for the sign-on bonus. The sign-on bonus is for all Foreman new hires, current Newport News Shipbuilding employees are eligible.
Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process will take and complete a 20-30 minute assessment. This one-time assessment will be applied to all Newport News Shipbuilding Foreman positions for a period of 365 days. For internal applicants, the assessment should be completed on the employee’s own time.

Preferred Qualifications
An Apprentice School X42 Pipefitter graduate is preferred with a sound knowledge of the shipyard pipefitter trade. Should be able to supervise the work of others and communicate effectively in individual and group situations.
The candidate will be responsible for the training and evaluation of 12-15 apprentices in a production environment. The candidate should possess strong organizational skills with proficiencies in multitasking and scheduling. The candidate will be responsible for all documentation requirements in their area of responsibility.
The candidate should possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in their area of responsibility and have a solid educational base, generally gained through successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training. The candidate should be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Willing to work a variable work schedule including overtime.
