IDS/IPDE Engineer System 2

Job Description

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Model Based Engineering (MBE) within the Engineering & Design Process & Tools (EDPT) division is seeking a motivated and forward thinking Engineer Systems 2 to support the development of MBE processes leveraging digital capabilities. Primary responsibilities will be standup of submarine processes related to the Integrated Product Development Environment (IPDE) to provide business partner functionality for successfully delivering Submarines to the NAVY. There will also be opportunity to support engineering tool development across programs.

As an Engineer Systems 2 ensure that the customer requirements and Siemens tool capabilities are procedurally documented in a timely manner so that the work force can execute Submarine deliverables. Also will require developing Work Around procedures when there are tool gaps to bridge the processes that require E&D tool capability.  Some of the tasks related to executing tool capabilities will relate to training/mentoring others with less experience in the IPDE tool. The capability processes to be documented  will include but not be limited to,  Submarine Data Transfer, Configuration Management of DY TA deliverables, Submarine Engineering Build Authority Deliverable (SEBAD) Development, Manufacturing Digital Data, Work Completion Reporting, and Submarine Liaison Engineering Deliverables (SLED). Other responsibilities will also include  performing tasks related to training others with less experience in the IPDE tool and creating videos for user guidance to develop Functional Department SMEs.


Basic Qualifications

2 Years with Bachelors in a related field; 0 Years with Masters. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge in computers and databases, including legacy programs used by HII.
  • Experience/knowledge in (Integrated Digital Shipbuilding ) iDs
  • Working knowledge in Siemens Tcu /NX (COLUMBIA, CVN etc) which includes TA & BA experience
  • Above average skills with Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Experience /knowledge with snaggit/ video extraction for tool process steps.
  • Experience /knowledge in VCS construction deliverables including EB 3G, Dwgs, ERs
  • Experience /knowledge of Process development/process mapping
