The Role
Performs secretarial and administrative/clerical duties as they relate to legal work as described in 15.02 C584 Secretary, and possesses a knowledge of and expertise in those functions peculiar to legal work, such as preparing documentation for loans (deeds of trust, promissory notes, financial statements, releases, reconveyances); preparing correspondence relating to litigation (pleadings, court forms, reports, etc.); preparing contracts involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, employment, insurance, and other matters; preparing bankruptcy claims, petitions of remission, and library transmittal correspondence. Must have a working knowledge of the law library, state and federal regulations, code sections, legal decisions, and Commerce Clearing House volumes.
Newport News Shipbuilding’s Law Department has an opportunity for a Legal Admin to join their team! The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and possess a high level of integrity and discretion in performing their duties.
Performs administrative/clerical duties in support of attorneys in the Law Department at NNS; possess thorough knowledge of and expertise in technical functions supporting legal office work, specifically the operation of word and data processing systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint); prepares correspondence and other documents for internal clients and outside parties; screens incoming phone calls and places outgoing calls for attorneys; works with attorneys, paralegals and Law Department administrators across HII divisions to coordinate and accomplish department functions; develops and maintains a working knowledge of databases and systems associated with Law Department operations. Coordinates attorney travel and processes expense reports.
Must Have
High School/GED and 4 years of additional education and/or experience
Preferred Qualifications
Successful candidate will possess technical skills and abilities set forth in job description and have prior working knowledge of Chrome River, AdTrav, process director, visitor management system (VMS), scheduling meetings utilizing Cisco Webex/Microsoft Teams, and perfect commerce. In addition, this position requires an energetic team player who is able to work independently and in a team environment at all levels, both within and external to the company. Prior experience as an administrative assistant is preferred.
