The Role
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
The following is a breakdown of what knowledge is needed for this job.
PTD:
The PTD is created to identify component level or misc. material needed to support the CVN68 and CVN78 working fleet. The PTD will consist of the component and all associated repair parts needed to support that component. Using multiple shipyard systems, technical personnel will locate the material needed for provisioning and retrieve all documents needed to begin this process, such as drawings (both NAVSEA and Vendor drawings), I2 data, Specifications, Inspection Reports (IR’s) and work packages. The technical personnel will input all needed data into the EBS system and will need to know and understand the procedure prior to input. The technical personnel must also obtain a Confidential Clearance to access the EBS Database. The technical personnel in the Enterprise Business System (EBS) will create the PTD. When completed (checked by lead, review by the cognizant engineering) the completed package will be forwarded to NAVSEA for approval. During the NAVSEA approval process, the technician must be able to respond to NAVSEA engineer questions if contacted.
LAR:
This document is provided to CDA for action on issues when attempting to procure the material for stocking purposes or to provide Onboard Repair Part Support (OBRP). The LAR also is created and issued under the Consolidated Problem Reporting (CPR). The vendor may have issues with the ordering data or are providing submittal that have to be approved or there could be other issues that Logistic Tech person has to be resolve. When the Logistic Tech person receive the LAR, if it cannot be resolved in the Logistic group, you may have to contact engineering (NSWCPD), the vendor or even NAVSEA to resolve the issue. The Logistic Tech person job is to attempt to resolve all issues in house with little outside assistance, if possible. This is also created under the Consolidated Problem Reporting (CPR).
Must Have
Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
Nice to Have
Provide technical support in the Logistic Field for support of the Naval Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Fleet (CVN68 and CVN78 Class) built and being built at HII-NNS. This is a highly technical job in in which the technician will be required to provide task support for HII-NNS engineering, NAVSEA, PEO Carriers and all naval Cognizant Design Activities (CDA).
The technician must be able to perform the following:
• Technical evaluations of shipboard and shore based spares of repair material for Propulsion Plant (Reactor and/or Steam Plant) support systems during RCOH.
• Produce technical ordering data for government contract procurements.
• Produce technical specifications and development of subsequent repair instructions.
• Create/maintain Provisioning Technical Documents (PTD), Individual Repair Part Ordering Data (IRPOD) and Liaison Action Request (LAR) from NAVSUP or other CDA’s among a multitude of other logistic task.
• Review NNPN (Newport News Part Numbers) to Steam and Electric APL’s.
• Review Purchase Orders initiated for the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) and determine if material support is required for the Naval Supply System.
• Provide quarterly reports to the Integrated Logistics Support Management Team (ILSMT).
• Review NNPN’s utilizing the Data Analytic Solutions Data Base (DAS Jump Site)
