Job Description

Videographer / Media Production Rep that is self-motivated, driven, creative and committed to producing high-quality content for Newport News Shipbuilding and Huntington Ingalls Industries.


This individual will have on-air presence and thrive working in a fast-paced environment to capture and produce video content in short- and long-term format (including time-lapse). The individual should be well-versed in lighting, have interviewing skills and experience engaging a wide range of audiences using multiple professional video equipment and DSLR-fully manual cameras. Proficient in writing and editing scripts, as well as shooting and editing video in a news and commercial production style with a strong emphasis on visual story-telling.

The individual will be expected to immerse themselves into the shipyard environment, become familiar with operations and collaborate with all departments - both in office, studio and waterfront settings. Newport News Shipbuilding is an industrial environment and candidate will be required to work in an industrial setting that requires extensive site surveys, logistics planning, and physical work, including lifting and climbing. Individual will be required to document work on ships in the shipyard and at sea and from elevated locations.

This position is part of the company's emergency response organization and will support various special events. Work is mostly on first shift, however, candidate will be required work outside of first shift hours including weekends as assignments dictate.


Researches, prepares and produces electronic media (computer interactive CDs, interactive websites, audiovisual, film, video) for training, sales, promotion, documentation, and other communicative purposes for both internal and external audiences. Consults with user to determine appropriate medium, creates product concepts, plans production, and produces media to include scriptwriting, location scouting, shot selection, video shooting, tape logging, music and sound effect selection, computer graphics, animation, digital effect creation, final editing and tape duplication. May act as liaison with vendors ensuring scheduling, costs and quality requirements are met.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience. Master's Degree and 1 year of experience. 4 years of related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree. 8 years of non-related exempt experience can be substituted for Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • On-air presence as well as proficient in Adobe Suite: Premiere, After Effects, Media Encoding, Lightroom, Photoshop and other applications.
  • Preferred skills include: FAA-Certified Drone Pilot license.
  • Work is mostly on first shift, however, candidate will be required work outside of first shift hours including weekends as assignments dictate.
