The Role

Plans and coordinates preparation of project documentation, such as engineering drawings, production specifications and schedules, and contract modifications, to ensure customer contract requirements are met. Reviews contract to determine documentation required for each phase of project, applying knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Analyzes proposed changes of product design to determine effect on overall product and system. Coordinates modification records for management control. Establishes change orders and prepares for change authorization and documentation by company and subcontractor. Reviews and analyzes released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.

This position is for the management of the E68 Carrier and Submarine Engineering Outsourcing . The position manages a team of individuals responsible for developing the technical rigor in support ofoutsourcing “Make” items and in the engineering bounding of “Make” to “Buy” tasking. The team is alsoresponsible for pulling and reporting vendor software to various leadership. the team also supports thedepartment manager is maintaining budget, progressing and LRM.
Daily Responsibilities include:
Design major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitatemanufacturing operations
Develop basic data and make preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal
Investigate pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment,interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements andcost
Coordinate with other organizations affected by design development
Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures
Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures,specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements indesign layout to responsible engineers or designers

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate 
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience 
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
  • A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.

Nice to Have

Thorough knowledge of Carrier and Submarine engineering Outsourcing process including the purchasespecification development
Experience with Teamcenter/NX, SAP, product structure trees, planning work packages, SWIMs and PowerBi
Understanding of how to fill out VIRs and eForm
Demonstrated ability to pull vendor software metrics and be comfortable with presenting them to seniorleadership
Multi discipline experience
