The Role

This position will lead the Ford Class Carrier Product Modeling (PM), Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) and Structural Material teams within E22.  

 

Product Modeling & PMI - The candidate will manage a team of designers responsible for PM structural details including all associated manufacturing information in the TC/NX environment.  This includes but is not limited to maintaining quality and accuracy of models and associated information (including welds, NDT, etc), completing workflow processes, release of files, change management of incoming HMR and BCA requirements, responding to PLOGs, providing status and support of trade’s requests for changes to support productivity and improvements. 

 

Material- The candidate will manage a team of designers responsible for placing SAP requirements for structural steel (forecasting), answering eIRs, VIRs and other requests for structural material, providing NNPNs sourcing of Structural BOMs, owning the I2 requirements for structural raw material as the Parts Master Office, scoping RCOH material requirements, support for Outsourcing of Structural BaseA units and supporting the fab shop by working to resolving material delinquencies.

 

Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.



 

Must Have

Design Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;

or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.

Nice to Have

The successful candidate will work closely with other engineering departments, the entire steel value stream, and vendors as necessary on all aspects of the products from design to work completion.  Experience with Ford Class structural design products and processes is preferred.  The successful candidate should have strong leadership, project management and organizational skills, the ability to manage and direct the work of others, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a proven history of resolving complex design problems and a comprehensive knowledge of standard shipbuilding processes.
