The Role

NNS is seeking a talented and self-motivated engineering manager to lead one of our model based engineering teams to extend the Digital Thread beyond NNS.  NNS is committed to digital transformation and this position will be pivotal in leading change in the company and the Navy.  This engineering manager position will be responsible for the cloud-based method of delivery for design disclosure as well as its use in facilitating collaborative design work between NNS and the government in new construction and life cycle applications.  This position will work with the government to develop requirements, user demonstration and training, resolving data transfer issues, and leading new technology enhancements and enrichments into the Cloud.  

In addition, this position will be responsible for the data exchange between NNS and EB as well as the associated work flows.  In this position you will need strong team building and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to lead through technical discussions.  

Manager responsibilities include:

  • Planning and program performance addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of a work on aircraft carrier and Columbia program
  • Lead, engage, and develop a team of skilled Model Based Engineers 
  • Develop and execute strategies for transformation of how NNS collaborates with external entities (e.g. Navy, shipyards, suppliers)
  • Manage tasking requirements and budgets
  • Collaborate with government / industry cross functional teams
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in model based engineering to lead NNS in new digital development opportunities. 
     

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.


Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter products, Amazon Web Services, Carrier and Submarine design processes
