Meet HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding
With more than 25,000 employees – including third-, fourth- and even fifth-generation shipbuilders – HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We’re the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Our diverse and innovative team of professionals ranges from skilled trades to project managers, engineers and software developers to solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users. We collaborate together at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world. Want to be part of the team? Apply today! We look forward to meeting you.

E92, Model Based Manufacturing, is seeking a leader to supervise a group of engineers and developers who perform detailed checks of piping Visual Work Instructions (VWIs) across multiple systems.  VWIs are the new way of creating instructions to the deckplate and the iDS program marks a deliberate enterprise-wide departure from legacy 2D drawings.   It is desirable that the candidate has familiarity with Ford Class piping system design and PLM systems but is not required.  The team focuses on installation practices, as well as the ability to ensure that VWIs are clear, accurate, and fully support execution in the shipyard.  This leader will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining production, cost and throughput goals.

Job Responsibilities

The VWI checking team ensures:

• The technical accuracy of piping configuration, materials, and system function.

• Alignment with NNS standards, drawing requirements, and approved engineering products.

• The completeness and clarity of 3D visual installation instructions for trades personnel.

• Consistency of VWI products across systems and disciplines.

The organization supports construction trades by providing high quality visual products that enhance installation efficiency, reduce rework, and ensure compliance with requirements.
