The Role

The position manages the Non‐Destructive Test Engineering department which is responsible for the technical support and oversight of the company’s NDT programs for all ship programs (nuclear and non‐nuclear). Departmental responsibilities include: qualification and development of NDT procedures, training/qualification and oversight of inspectors, field support of NDT operations/inspections in production, development and execution of NDT related R&D and supplier support, and technical resolution of NDT related issues across the company. Manager responsible for the Non‐destructive Test ﴾NDT﴿ Engineering program at Newport News Shipbuilding. Supports all Navy programs across the shipyard, nuclear and non-nuclear. Ensures adequate staffing of NDT examiners and oversees qualification of inspectors for all NDT disciplines.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

This position is to lead the Non‐Destructive Test (NDT) Engineering department. It is preferred that a qualified candidate have a BS degree in Welding Engineering, Non-Destructive Testing, or Metallurgical Engineering. A candidate should have a strong working knowledge of NDT processes, welding metallurgy and welding processes. Additionally, a candidate should have experience with the NDT and welding processes and materials used in Navy shipbuilding along with extensive experience working with the navy specifications. It is also preferred that the candidate understand the specific internal NDT engineering department processes.
