The Role

This position is responsible for leading the development and adoption of Digital Engineering and Model Based Engineering (MBE) practices at Newport News Shipbuilding.  Digital Engineering is an approach to product development, manufacturing, and lifecycle support that uses a digital models to drive all engineering activities.  These models include system engineering, analytical, and design models.   As shipbuilding transforms digitally, it is imperative that the Engineering, Technology, and Design organization lead the way in leveraging this approach to elevate our engineering practices through integration of product design information, analyses, and AI.  This information forms the basis for a digital thread that drives processes throughout the life of our ships.  
 
Specifically, this leader will:
· Lead a talented, engaged team focused on advancing the state-of-the-art in engineering and design practices
· Establish standards, procedures and training to support adoption and execution of Digital Engineering practices internal and external to NNS
· Lead the vision, development and implementation of toolsets to enable Digital Engineering practices
· Standardize delivery of model based engineering data across programs
· Lead the adoption of Digital Lifecycle Sustainment and Digital Engineering practices with the Navy
· Be the AI lead for ET&D to support coordination of AI initiatives with the CTO

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.


Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
