The Role

This position is the senior manager normally present in the yard for second and third shift operations and is responsible for directing routine night shift operations for facilities support including support for ship construction, repair, refueling and overhaul, manufacturing shops, facilities projects and waterfront support on these shifts. This position must also direct immediate actions to be taken in the event of emergencies including however not limited to radiological, terrorist’s threats, environmental health & safety, severe weather conditions, energy concerns, failures, fatalities, serious injuries, fires, A-90 issues, missing employees, coordination of efforts with the customer and outside agencies in the yard, attend critiques, evacuations and drills, keeping the Director of Facilities, Program Directors, Trades Directors and various process owners/managers on day shift advised by telephone of such emergencies and / or calling them back to the yard if their presence is required. Maintains necessary direct contact with the Navy, customers, or other related outside activities and with cognizant Company management personnel.

Specific to this Job:
• Ensures a safe and healthful environment for assigned area and subordinates. Reinforces the Company's commitment to safety by instruction, example and enforcement of health and safety requirements and rules. Continually audits the workplace to identify and remove hazards. Recommends improvements in the work processes to reduce or eliminate hazards. Thoroughly investigates accidents to prevent recurrence. Responsible for keeping subordinates focused on performing assigned tasks in compliance with safety requirements and taking appropriate disciplinary action when violations occur.
• Supports yard wide cleanliness
• Conducts yard wide surveillances
• Leads Night Shift Group for Emergency Response Organization
• Supports engagement on night shift with safety task team personnel and leadership development programs
• Ensures compliance with all Company policies, procedures, values, innovative work practices relative to departmental operations, develops, and administers departmental practices and procedures, as necessary
• Organizes night shift management to be proactive in conducting self-assessments of night shift functions

 

Supervises employees or outside contractors who construct, maintain, and repair utilities systems, buildings, and equipment via one or more of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air-conditioning, heating, painting, and/or general maintenance. Sets priorities and performs forecasting and allocates the resources needed to complete all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.

Must Have

Apprentice Certification, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and 8 years of applicable, progressive technical, professional and/or supervisory work experience. A candidate must have a thorough understanding of construction, manufacturing processes, and operations.
