The Role

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have technical generic classifications engaged in information systems design, development, and analysis encompassing one or more of the following areas of technical expertise: programming, PC application analysis, software development, systems integration, and related disciplines.

Newport News Shipbuilding’s Business Transformation and Technology team is seeking a well-rounded leader to join our IT team as a first-level manager – someone with a unique blend of leadership and management experience, strong business acumen, and a demonstrated ability to galvanize a team around a sense of shared purpose to deliver a superior product to our customers. Selected candidate will manage and lead a team of agile coaches and practitioners and play an integral role in our agile transformation journey.

•    This position will report directly to the Manager of ERP Process Standardization & Integration. Candidate will oversee a team of agile coaches and practitioners that integrate with the various IT disciplines to drive agility and structure into the work place.

•    Must be able to show experience in hiring, managing, training, coaching, and developing personnel to be the best version of themselves so they can successfully operate in their current positions and ready them for their next.

•    Must be able to work at a strategic and tactical level to grow the DevOps culture within the environment and help create an atmosphere that fosters continuous improvement and creative problem solving across the various IT disciplines.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master?s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
  • A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or the equivalent in education, training, and practice plus a minimum of 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience. Leadership, managerial, analytical, and administrative skills and abilities are necessary, along with strong communication and a robust working knowledge of agile principles, processes, and techniques. Applicable agile certifications are required
