The Role
Newport News Shipbuilding’s Information Technology team is seeking an experienced leader to join our team– someone with a unique blend of leadership, management experience, and strong business acumen to deliver a superior product to our U.S. Navy customers. The manager will lead teams in the Design Engineering portfolio and be responsible for the Siemens suite of tools (Teamcenter/NX) in support of our submarine and aircraft carrier products.
•Manager will oversee teams of technical experts, including application administrators and software engineers in the PLM space, with heavy utilization of the Siemens tool suite (Teamcenter/NX).
•Responsible for the direct supervision of leaders, product owners, managed service providers, consultants, and individual contributors. Must be able to hire, manage, train, coach, and develop the individuals and leaders across the area of responsibility.
•Must be able to work at a strategic and tactical level to accomplish short- and long-term department goals.
•Responsible for creating an environment that fosters continuous improvement and automation, with a focus on growing the DevOps culture.
•Accountable for administrative staff work and special projects, as assigned by the Director.
•Strong communication skills are a must, including the ability to articulate technical solutions and concisely explain options and solutions to senior leadership.
•Preference will be shown to candidates who can demonstrate the ability to lead high-functioning teams and assure work is completed to schedule.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience
One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
- A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (or the equivalent in education, training, and experience), plus a minimum of five years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; or master's degree and four years relevant experience.

Proven success as a technical leader:
• A solid foundation in PLM tools and the ability to challenge the teams, suggest technical alternatives, and recognize excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead others.
• Ability to build strong relationships across the organization, both inside and outside of IT.
• Experience with:
o Application administration and support
o Scaled Agile model
o DevOps, CI/CD, and Test Automation
