The Role

Specific job description: 

Responsible for leading the Transportation Department at NNS, which consists of over 60 employees, and includes the Shipping Warehouse and Traffic Office that coordinates Domestic and International shipments. A yearly budget of over $4M, and equipment valued at over $60M. Equipment consists of CDL stake-body trucks, industrial trailers towed by farm tractors, semi-tractors with trailers up to 53 feet, straddle carriers, trains with railcars up to 400 tons, freight carriers and barging operations. Coordinates transportation operations to dispatch, pick-up, transport, and deliver over 80,000 loads annually. Develops and executes traffic management plans and ensures compliance with regulations. Ensures compliance to DOT (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations), DOD, and DOE regulations. Communicates with internal and external customers to ensure timely pickups and deliveries of material to meet schedules. Leads continuous improvements in safety, engagement, employee & leadership development at all levels, quality, schedule, and cost performance to meet established goals. Responsible for day-to-day tactical success, continuous improvement projects, and long-term strategic transformational initiatives.

General job description: 

Plans, schedules and manages the efficient movement of material from receiving or the designated warehouse to production.  Manages warehouse inventory for various procured and manufactured material.  Coordinates directly with internal / external customers to efficiently support material requirements.  Oversees daily operations for multiple work centers to ensure safety, quality, cost and schedule compliance.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience


One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate 
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience 
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
