The Role

The candidate in this role will mentor and lead all levels of personnel responsible for developing Visual Work Instructions (VWIs).  The candidate will also assist in analyzing digital design data and utilize these products in conjunction with build plans to create quality and accurate VWIs. Interprets and adds design elements and portions of systems for VWIs to meet manufacturing and installation requirements. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, Teamcenter, NX, SAP, NGP and TDP. Incorporates required changes as applicable. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.  The candidate will make decisions that directly impact departmental goals and business operations. They will also coordinate with other organizations in the value stream to meet program objectives.  Along with performing all other duties as assigned.

 

Job Summary: The Visual Instruction Operations Manager 2 is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the development of visual work instructions, managing a production team, and collaborating with other managers to drive operational excellence. This position requires a strong leader who can mentor and guide personnel, analyze and resolve issues, and present data-driven insights to senior leadership and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor and lead all levels of personnel responsible for developing visual work instructions, providing guidance, training, and feedback to ensure high-quality output and continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration and Issue Resolution: Work with other managers in the value stream to identify and resolve potential issues, ensuring seamless operations and minimal disruptions to production.
  • Performance Metrics and Reporting: Present performance metric data to leadership, the program office, and the Navy, providing actionable insights and recommendations to inform strategic decisions.
  • Special Projects: Take lead on special projects, in addition to managing the production team, to drive innovation, efficiency, and process improvements.
    Production Team Management: Manage a team of production personnel, overseeing the development of visual work instructions, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Additional Duties: Perform all other duties assigned by senior leadership, including participating in cross-functional teams.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field and a minimum of 6 years of applicable, progressive professional, exempt and/or supervisory work experience; Master's degree and 4 years relevant, exempt experience.

 

One of the following may be used as equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience 
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

 

Note: Experience obtained while performing work as a Visual Instruction Developer will be considered towards qualifying ONLY for Exempt jobs specific to Visual Instruction job titles.

    • Knowledge of lean principles and process improvement methodologies
    • Experience working with the Navy or other government agencies
    • Strong technical skills, with experience in using software and tools relevant to visual work instruction development and production (SAP, NGP, TC, NX, DDMS, etc.)
