The Role

Supervises employees who operate and maintain the 150lb steam system,5,000 HP air system, oily waste system, low pressure air and along with maintaining our utility tunnel, etc. May also supervise outside contractors who perform repairs and maintenance on these systems. Set priorities and develop schedules. Allocates the resources needed to complete all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. Ensure that we receive a quality service while ensuring operability and maintainability is sustained. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Responsible for complying with all the technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, specifications, etc.

An incumbent must possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in the area of responsibility, and a have a solid educational base, generally gained through successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training. The candidate must be able to supervise the work of others, motivate and train employees, and possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Depending on area, specific technical, medical and physical requirements may apply, such as radiation worker or asbestos worker qualifications. May be required to physically access tight, low or high spaces, involving climbing, kneeling, stooping, standing, etc. Depending on area assigned, the job may involve exposure to extreme weather and other environmental conditions encountered in shipbuilding and manufacturing, including noise, fumes, chemicals, moving and energized machines and systems, etc. Must be able to work a variable work schedule including overtime.

 

Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree OR
Apprentice Certification OR
High School and 4 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience OR 
Associate Degree in a Trade/Technical and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or  military experience

Nice to Have

• Able to read and communicate construction and installation drawings to others
• Knowledgeable of the International Plumbing & Mechanical Code
• Knowledgeable of B-31 power piping codes
• Experience working with live systems
• Well organized and astute with time management
• Strong communication skills
• Self-starter, requiring limited supervision
• Strong safety record and working knowledge of shipyard safety requirements
• Strong Computer Skills – Word, Excel, SAP
• Understanding of and familiarity with pipe standards and specifications
• Knowledge of welding SMAW, GTAW and SAW
• Analyzes workforce, material, equipment requirements, and coordinates the piping work plan requirements
