The Role
Payroll Analyst 3
Newport News Shipbuilding is looking for a qualified Payroll Analyst to join our Payroll team. The Payroll Analyst will assist with overseeing the time and attendance collection and calculation for multiple companies. This role is also responsible for ensuring employees and vendors are paid timely, accurately, and in accordance with federal and state regulations.
An ideal candidate will have payroll processing experience with large or multiple entities. Demonstrate excellence in peer reviews and audits of manual processes, while seeking automation opportunities for current processes; and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and analyze payroll reports and manual entries to identify and resolve issues methodically with high attention to detail and critical thinking.
- Ensuring time is processed accurately and timely from time input until payroll processing occurs.
- Ability to reconcile differences among multiple payroll platforms.
- General knowledge of payroll processes and procedures.
- Collaboratively work with Human Resources, Benefits, and Labor Relations teams in administering payroll activities.
- Identify areas of improvement and opportunities for positive change.
- Maintain payroll checklists and audits for accuracy and SOX compliance.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutory regulations and company policies.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
Nice to Have
- 3+ years of experience in payroll operations.
- Experience with SAP/ECP or Workforce is strongly preferred.
- Self-motivated with an inclination for action, results, and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple processes, programs, and procedures simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
