The Role

This Job Listing is for recent or upcoming 2024 High School Graduates. Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is offering a $1000 sign-on bonus to Trade Trainee hires. In addition, Newport News Shipbuilding is offering $1,000 in relocation bonus to Entry Level Trade new hires that live 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA. Job seekers who apply until August 1, 2024, are eligible for the sign-on bonus and relocation bonus. Pipe fitters are responsible for installing these complex systems together on the ship and in the shop: more than 23 miles of pipe are installed on a submarine, and more than 230 miles of pipe are installed on a carrier. As a pipe fitter, you will learn to read blueprints, fabricate, install, inspect, and test the many piping systems onboard a ship. In your first few weeks at the company, you will attend a Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class where you will receive important information needed for you to perform you job. During your career you will also receive other training need to enhance your knowledge of the job.

Must Have

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.

 

Candidates must be able to:

  • Climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
  • Work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
  • Kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis.
  • Lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more
  • Work while repeatedly reaching overhead.
  • Work indoors or outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Work in areas with radiation.
  • Work assigned shift as production needs.
  • Take and pass a Physical Agility Test.
